The last group of measures presented in the Waterdrive Catalogue of Measures (https://www.slu.se/waterdrive) are agri-environmental measures directly related to aquatic ecosystems: two-stage ditches and constructed wetlands. Reconstruction of channels or regulated watercourses consisting in delineation of the main channel and floodplain terraces serves the protection against flooding and drought, self-purification of rivers and increase of biodiversity.
Also the construction of artificial wetlands, both with surface and subsurface flow, is a solution with many environmental benefits. First of all, they have the ability to reduce pollution, increase water retention and create new habitats, thus enhancing biodiversity.
